Dr. Kaye Chon
Dr. Kaye Chon is a former hotel manager and tourism industry consultant, Professor Kaye Chon (Ph.D., CHE, FIH) and is Dean and Chair Professor of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Under Dean Chon’s leadership, the School has arisen as one of the world’s leading institutions in hospitality and tourism management. In 2009, the School was ranked no. 2 in the global ranking of hospitality and tourism schools based on research and scholarship, according to a study published in the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research. Dean Chon is recognized internationally for his research, scholarship and academic leadership in the areas of Hospitality Management, Hospitality and Tourism Marketing and Convention Tourism. Throughout his career, he has presented lectures, seminars and speeches in more than 90 countries across all continents of the world.
In his university teaching that spans close to 30 years, Dean Chon twice received “Teaching Excellence Award” and four times received “Research Excellence Award,” including the John Wiley & Sons Award and Howard B. Meek Award from International CHRIE, Martin Oppermann Memorial Award from the International Society of Travel & Tourism Educators (ISTTE), Michael D. Olsen Award from the University of Delaware, and Founders Award in Research from Purdue University and the University of South Carolina, all for his lifetime contribution to scholarship and research in tourism/hospitality. In 2003, he received the prestigious FTA Hospitality Humanitarian Leadership Award from Fred Tibbitts and Associates of New York for his leadership and community services in global hospitality industry development. In 2003, Dean Chon was also recognized by his alma mater Georgia State University as the “Most Outstanding Alumni in 30 Years”.
He is honored by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) with the prestigious UNWTO Ulysses Prize 2011. Dean Chon is the past Chairman of the International Society of Travel and Tourism Educators and currently member of the Executive Board of Pacific Asia Travel Association. He has been listed in Who’s Who In The World.
Dr. Daniel Fesenmaier
Dr. Daniel Fesenmaier is the Professor and Director of the National Laboratory for Tourism and eCommerce for the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Temple University. As Director of the National Laboratory for Tourism & eCommerce, Dr. Fesenmaier is responsible for directing travel and tourism research projects and providing consulting services to national, state, region and local tourism organizations. Over the past 25 years, he has been involved in tourism marketing and research projects for the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Texas as well as destination marketing organizations in these states and in Mississippi, New York and Texas. He has also served as a consultant to tourism projects in Australia, Canada, Ghana and South Korea.
Dr. Fesenmaier is author of over 150 articles dealing with tourism marketing, advertising evaluation and information technology. He has co-authored a monograph titled Assessing and Developing Tourism Resources, co-edited 5 books (Recreation Planning and Management, Communication Systems in Tourism Marketing, Recent Advances in Tourism Research Methodology, Information and Communication Technologies 2000, Information and Communication Technologies 2001), and is co-founding editor of an international journal titled Tourism Analysis.
Dr. Fesenmaier received his Ph. D. in geography from the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada. He has taught at the University of Oklahoma, Texas A&M University and Indiana University and the University of Illinois before coming to Temple University and has received a number of awards for his teaching and research. In particular, he been recognized twice for excellence in teaching through the “Incomplete List of Instructors Rated as Excellent by Their Students,” University of Illinois and for excellence in research through the King J. McCristal Outstanding Scholars Award, University of Illinois and receiving the Best Conference Paper Award at ENTER2003 and ENTER2004 and at the 8th Annual Graduate Students Conference in Hospitality and Tourism.
Dr. SooCheong Jang
Dr. SooCheong (Shawn) Jang is Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) at Purdue University, USA. Dr. Jang has a strong record of research and scholarship with significant contributions to both instruction and service. Since joining Purdue in 2005, Dr. Jang has received prestigious teaching awards, including the 2008 and 2012 Bruce I. Lazarus Teaching Awards and the 2009 Mary L. Matthews Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher Award. Prior to joining Purdue University, Dr. Jang was Assistant Professor at Kansas State University.
Dr. Jang’s research interests are twofold: hospitality finance/strategic management and hospitality/tourism marketing. Dr. Jang has more than 150 articles in refereed top-tier HTM journals and business journals and has received numerous accolades during his academic career. For example, he was recognized as the top-ranked author in HTM academia in terms of publications in the top six HTM journals during the past decade (Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research (2011), 35(3), 381-416). In addition to numerous best paper awards at international conferences, he also received one of the most prestigious research awards in hospitality and tourism, the W. Bradford Wiley Memorial Best Research Paper of the Year Award (2009), awarded at the International CHRIE Annual Conference. Dr. Jang is frequently invited as a speaker by many universities as well as international conferences.
Dr. Jang used to be an organizer for the TOSOK International Tourism Annual Conference and currently serves as Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee, APTA (Asia Pacific Tourism Association). He also serves on the editorial boards of seven top-tier HTM academic journals such as Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, International Journal of Hospitality Management, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Journal of Travel Research, Tourism Management, Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing, and Tourism Analysis. Dr. Jang is a member of I-CHRIE (International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institution Education) and APTA (Asia Pacific Tourism Association). He is listed in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Education.
